Working Groups

CLACS Faculty/Graduate Working Groups

The Working Group for the 2009/2010 academic year is The Interdisciplinary Forum on the African Diaspora, Race, and Transnationalism in Latin America and the Caribbean. It will be coordinated by Dr. Melina Pappademos starting in the spring 2010 semester.

* Working Group proposals for the 2010/2011 AY will be due May 15, 2010.

CLACS will offer small grants to faculty and graduate students to organize interdisciplinary working groups focused on particular themes for the 2009-10 academic year.  Working groups will provide participants the opportunity to discuss readings and share their research. Funding may be used to pay for reading materials, food, and visits by regional scholars. Groups are encouraged to use working groups as the foundation for future conferences and symposia (e.g. such as panels in upcoming ConnLAP conference: http://clacs.uconn.edu/ConnLAP.html), course development, and publications. Of particular interest is collaboration with our colleagues affiliated with the Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies at UMass-Amherst (http://www.umass.edu/clacls/index.htm) where CLACS has recently renewed ties.

Those interested in organizing a working group should submit a two-page proposal that includes the following elements:

1. Title Subject Area
2. Purpose of the work group
3. Potential outcomes
4. List of participants
5. Schedule
6. Budget ($1500 max.)

Email your proposal to LatinAmerica@uconn.edu. Applications due by May 15, 2010.
