Dr. Mark Overmyer-Velazquez was selected as the 2009-2010 Peggy Rockefeller Visiting Scholar of the David Rockefellar Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University.

Dr. Peter Kingstone has a forthcoming publication "From Cardoso to Lula: The Triumph of Pragmatism in Brazil," in Leftist Governments in Latin America: Successes and Shortcomings, edited by Kurt Weyland, Wendy Hunter and Raúl Madrid. Cambridge University Press. It is co-authored with Aldo Ponce, a graduate of the MA program in Latin American Studies at UConn.

Dr. Lirio K. Negroni, an associate professor at the University of Connecticut’s School of Social Work, has been named the 2009 Educator of the Year by the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

Dr. Robin Chazdon discusses new model for conservation of tropical forests.

Dr. Susan Randolph is awarded the Human Rights Institute Fellowship.

Dr. Hans Dam was recently elected to the Connecticut Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Robin Greely and co-organizer Jose Falconi, are invovled in a speakers series, Art & Politics in Contemporary Latin America, at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Harvard University, ongoing, 2009-present.

Co-organizer (with Fred Donner/University of Chicago; Peter Sluglett/University of Utah; Harvey Weiss/Yale) of the project, "Empire in the Middle East: from Antiquity to the French & British Mandates." This project is taking the form of a major conference (in Barcelona, 2010) and a published book.

Dr. Peter Kingstone has several recent publications and an editied book.

Fall 2009 course offerings are up for both undergraduate and graduate.
